Easy Laid-back Ride


Muddy areas were dry today. This was an easy route that avoided big hills, the back trail bridges, and potentially “dangerous” narrow spot along the river. Appears that the park may be planning to put new trail markers out as colored plastic streamers were placed at intervals.


Outskirts only (crops in the middle) no ground hog holes spotted so far, some good cantering spots

New parking area- Changing terrain. Woods, fields, rocks, water crossing, road crossing. Ties in the shorter loop from older parking area, bypasses the old wooded rocky trail, goes up the hillside and back down across the road to the cannon fields. Does not cross the slick creek

Deam Lake Trail and Three Hills Trail


Pretty, hilly trail through woods. Dirt trail is mostly rocky. Restroom at parking area.

Area 15A lots of good canter spots. Flat. Narrow trails and some good two tracks with some open areas.

Very stony. Wish she had had shoes on.


A bit rocky but ok for a beginner.

Sheyenne National Grasslands


Along the dike, between the bay and the pacific. Then down to the pacific ocean beach.


County park with mixed use (horse and bike) trails. Woods and fields.


Mild, forested, lovely trail. There is a shooting range some distance from the trail (not a danger to riders). On some days the sound can be loud on parts of the trail. Just be aware if your horse isn’t used to that type of noise.

Mostly shady except part of pink trail.Mostly sand or grass but sone small gravel to traverse. Can ride in the dude in these areas.Two water tanks, clean.Enjoyable, well-marked trails!


Flat wide trails along river and woods. Remains of munitions factory can be seen as well as an artesian well.


Asphalt road for a mile. Two miles along the river. Hit the rapidan fire road to go thru the mountains back to Graves or left towards fork mountain or Hoover camp.

It has some steep, rocky down hill places. Pretty rocky I suggest either shoes or boots for your horse for the trail.

Yes! You can add a trail from any ride you track using the Equilab app. To so, simply download the app, create an account, then record your ride on the trial.
Note that to create a trail, the ride must be at least 0.6 miles long, have taken at least 5 minutes, and must not have been tracked within an arena.
